Root Canal Treatment at Promenade Dental.

We understand that the thought of a root canal can make many people feel anxious – but in reality, it’s a safe, routine procedure that can save your natural tooth and help you avoid more complex treatments like dental bridges or implants.

Also known as endodontic therapy, root canal treatment is typically recommended when the pulp inside your tooth becomes infected. If left untreated, this can lead to pain, swelling, and more serious dental issues.

Do I Need a Root Canal?

If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, it’s essential to get in touch with us as soon as possible:

  • Sensitivity to hot food or drinks.
  • Persistent, throbbing toothache.
  • Pain when chewing or biting.
  • Swollen gums around the affected tooth.
  • Facial swelling.

Infections often result from deep decay, cracked teeth, or loose fillings, which allow bacteria to enter the pulp chamber. Prompt treatment is essential to prevent the spread of infection and to preserve the affected tooth.

What to Expect from Root Canal Treatment

Thanks to modern techniques and local anaesthesia, root canal treatment is virtually pain-free and no more uncomfortable than getting a standard filling.

The procedure is usually completed over two visits, though this can vary depending on your case.

Your First Appointment

  • The affected area will be completely numbed using a local anaesthetic.
  • Your dentist will remove the top part of the tooth to access the infected pulp.
  • The pulp is carefully removed, and the inner canal is cleaned using an antibacterial solution.
  • If the infection requires more than one visit, medication is placed inside the canal to prevent further infection, and a temporary filling is applied to protect the tooth.

Your Second Appointment

  • The tooth is checked for any remaining signs of infection.
  • A permanent filling is placed, and the tooth is sealed to prevent reinfection.
  • In some cases, we recommend placing a crown to restore full strength and function to the tooth.

Aftercare and Long-Term Oral Health

Following root canal therapy, you can support healing and maintain the health of your treated tooth by:

  • Practising good oral hygiene.
  • Attending regular dental check-ups.
  • Reduce your intake of sugary foods and drinks.

With proper care, your treated tooth can last for many years, and additional root canal procedures can often be avoided altogether.

If you suspect a tooth infection or have concerns about root canal treatment, contact Promenade Dental today. We’re here to provide gentle, professional care and help you keep your smile healthy and pain-free.
